Feed your child right for optimum academic & behavioural performance

Dearest parents,
I have issued the latest Singapore's child magazine for your leisure reading especially on page 14 & 42-44. In all Phyllis' Riccia schools, we focus a lot on educating healthy food choices regardless of age as we strongly belief in the wellness that it brings along.

Dearest children who will be taking the SA1 examination over the next 2 weeks,
I hope all of you are in the pink of health.I sincerely hope all of you are well and getting ready for the examination. A few reminders for you:
Please remember the following:
- have a healthy breakfast (but not too full, no sweetened food)
- sleep EARLY the night before the exam to have a fresh mind to be able to think well the next day
- at least 3 pencils (bring 2B pencils to shade the ovals in the OAS scripts - 2B pencils have darker and softer leads that make shading easier and faster)
- at least 2 erasers (in case 1 falls off the table and rolls away)
- coloured pencils
- a ruler
- Do CHECK your work many times to ensure ALL questions are answered.
- DO NOT leave any blank answers - always try (make smart guesses).
- For the OAS - shade the ovals FULLY and shade the CORRECT corresponding ovals
- As you are using pencils - DO NOT use correction tape (you may unknowingly "tape off" a part of your answer in so doing)

Take good care and just try your BEST for all the papers. I hereby wish you WELL for the exam!

Special dedication to all who are directly involved in the care of children: HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

一日为师,终身为父(a teacher for a day is a father for a lifetime)
Time changes everything.
One truth always stays the same...
I look up to everything you are.
And I believe in you, although you never asked me to.
I will remember you,and what life put you through.

Pointers for the coming SA1 examination

The details of how to help your child do well in the exam will be shared to the student care children who will be taking the SA1. Parents please feel free to make an appointment with Phyllis for further discussion.
By the way, the Oral exam is also around the corner. We will prepare the child for the following:-

How to prepare well for the oral exam which consists of 2 parts -
(A) Reading Aloud
(B) Picture Discussion
Remember to talk about.....
Do not give......
Tell about.....
(The details will not be typed out as it is the intellectual property of Phyllis Koh, Founder of Phyllis' Riccia School. However, Phyllis will share the pointers generously with parents whose children are enrolled in the B.A.S.C programme)

Day 5: 19th Mar 10, Friday

We round-up the holiday programme with a heart-warming drama and dance on'妈妈我爱你', followed by a sum-up of our Science exploration and gifted learning skills at the Science Centre. Due to the rain, we postponed our sports day event to another day(will be informed). Parents, we hoped that you have enjoyed yourselves on the Campfire nite and have celebrated the benefits of your child's learning in this enriching holiday.

Day 4: 18th Mar 10, Thursday

Fire need oxygen to burn, air expand when heated... there are so much Science in camping overnight. Our campfire was SPECTACULAR, our presentation to our parents on Parent Nite was IMPRESSIVE!Not only did we complete our school homework with self check skills,we benefited tremendously through the many skills of exploration,as well as problem solving in the workshops of Science and Gifted Learning. Teambuilding enables us to work in cohesiveness for putting up a great performance over just a day of Hip hop and Percussion workshops. That's why we need to celebrate our success.

Day 3: 17th Mar 10, Wed

Speaking with Gusto was as explosive as our Science experiments on starting the fire!

Day 2: 16th Mar 2010

Demonstration followed by the chance for the child to actually perform a task is often the most valuable learning technique for children who exhibit characteristics of giftedness.
